Tips for Teams Files
In Microsoft Teams, there are different ways to find, store, and share files to collaborate with others.
Try it!
Open a file and work with others
- Go to the file you want and select More attachment options (...) to open a file.
- Choose where to open a file:
- Teams (default): Open a file in Teams.
- Desktop app: Open a file in the desktop version of the app.
- Browser: Open a file in the browser version of the app.
- You can work on a file at the same time as your teammates for real-time collaboration.
Turn a file into a tab
- Go to the file you want and select More attachment options (...) > Make this a tab.
Use the Files tab in a channel
- In a channel, use the Files tab to find, organize, and share files.
- To pin a file to the top of the files list, choose a file, select Show actions (...) > Pin to top.
- Select Upload to add a file or folder to the channel and a copy appears in your Files tab.
Any teammate can open the file or folder you added and there's no need to upload another version.
Share a file from the Files tab in a channel
- Choose a file to share and select Copy link to create a link.
- Choose a permission level if you'd like.
- Share the link with a teammate in a chat or post.
