Teams: Search and filter messages
Find and filter messages with the Search bar in Microsoft Teams.
Try it!
Search for a message
- Select the Search bar at the top of the Teams app.
- Type in message keywords and press Enter.
- When message results appear, toggle between Top results and Latest results.
- To view more message results, select More messages or select the Messages tab.
Filter message results
- When you view more message results, filter them based on:
- Type - to filter messages from just chats or channels.
- Teams and channels - to filter messages from a specific team or channel.
- From - to filter messages from a specific person.
- Date - to sort messages by date.
- @mentions me - to filter messages based on your @mentions.
- Has attachments- to filter messages that have attachments.
- Hide apps & bots- to hide message results sent from apps and bots.
- To clear filters, select Clear all.
- To expand and learn more about a message, select Go to message in a message result to see more context in the actual chat.
Search for a message in a chat or channel
- In a chat or channel, press Ctrl + F, type in your keywords, and press Enter.
All message results appear in the results pane.
